Council advances series of traffic and parking code changes after public comment on loading zones and stop controls

The Hoboken City Council voted to carry several traffic-and-parking-related ordinances after public comment and council discussion. The items included adding specific loading zones, establishing multi-way stop controls at several intersections, and amendments to parking chapters that affect reserved ADA spaces.
Public commenter Jim Vance told the council it was inefficient to approve loading zones one ordinance at a time and urged the city to implement findings from an existing curb study so loading zones could be rolled out in a planned, financially sound way. "Stop the one ordinance at a time and let's get on with this study," he said.
Council clarified that at least one ADA parking-space removal had been processed before a moratorium and that item would move forward. The council carried the loading-zone and stop-street ordinances by roll call.
The council also introduced an ordinance to regulate personal delivery devices and moved forward on other first-reading code changes related to animals, dwelling standards and industrial cannabis manufacturing zones for later consideration.
