Green Township accepts recreation grants, inserts Highlands drainage grant, and seeks county trails funding

At its May 4 meeting the Green Township Committee approved several grant actions intended to fund park and drainage improvements.
The committee adopted Resolution 2026-104 to amend the 2026 budget to include a Highlands Water Protection and Planning Council reimbursement of $27,010 to support a drainage study. Township Clerk Mark Zschack noted the allocation is for the drainage study.
The committee also accepted two Local Recreation Improvement grants from the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs: a $63,200 award to construct pickleball courts in EverGreen Park (Resolution 2026-106) and an $81,000 award to construct a walking path at EverGreen Park (Resolution 2026-107). Each resolution authorizes execution of the grant agreement and the expenditure of funds in accordance with the fully executed agreement.
Finally, the committee approved submitting a Sussex County Trails Grant application (Resolution 2026-108) for improvements to the County Connector Trail, including a safer crossing at Creek Road and improvements at the trail’s end at Airport Road; the application was authorized for an amount not to exceed $23,866 and requires signature by the mayor or clerk.
All four measures passed unanimously among members present (DeYoung, Qarmout, Phillips). The resolutions instruct municipal officials to sign and execute grant agreements as received; specific project schedules and contractor selections were not addressed at the meeting.
