Chair Deborah Long called the Farmers Branch Senior Advisory Board to order and the board approved the minutes of the June 4, 2026 meeting after a motion from a board member and a second by Marcia.
The meeting focused on routine program updates and event planning. Members reported on recurring activities — chair volleyball, weight‑room sessions, Monday mixers, bingo and poker nights — and on recent outreach: volunteers helped with a teen leadership program and a citizen fire event. A member noted the board recruited three new members in recent weeks.
Staff outlined July programming and calendar items, including the Farmers Branch Independence Day celebration at Historical Park, a July 6 breakfast, craft‑fair registration July 9, the NRPA park picnic on July 10, the Metrocrest Mobile Food Bank on July 13, and a July 28–29 tribute game organized by Josh Swain. Staff also said an instructor’s surgery will temporarily change class titles and formats for July, with a plan to return to normal schedules in August.
On facilities, the renovations update reported staining completed in the boardroom, planned installation of trim and replacement of track lights in the theater and gym, repair of the dishwasher, and a scheduled change of light bulbs next Friday.
Veterans Day preparations were discussed: the board plans three giveaway items (a challenge coin, a coaster and a third item still under consideration), will distribute one coin per family, and will offer poppy pins and flag lapel pins. Members noted the city had distributed flags previously but supply was limited.
Members proposed future agenda items including a possible senior health fair and the board’s annual election of officers. The board confirmed regular meetings will continue the first Thursday of the month at 1:00 p.m., with the next meeting scheduled for Aug. 6 at 1:00 p.m.; the December meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. to accommodate a noon holiday lunch. The meeting was adjourned following a motion that was seconded by Greg Caddy.
This was a routine business meeting of the Farmers Branch Senior Advisory Board focused primarily on programming, calendar coordination and event logistics; no policy actions or external referrals were taken.
