Hainesport Board OKs paraprofessional hire, accepts 2023–24 audit and approves student services contract

The Hainesport Township Board of Education on Nov. 12 approved a set of routine personnel, student-services and finance items, including the ratification of a new paraprofessional hire and formal acceptance of the district audit for the 2023–24 school year.
Board President Jason Cardonick opened the 7 p.m. session and Superintendent Joseph R. Corn reported on recent school events, including a Halloween parade and a veterans luncheon. PTO representative Ms. Alderman summarized upcoming family and fundraising events, saying the PTO has mini grants available and listing Family Night Top Golf, a dine-out on Nov. 14, a movie night on Nov. 15 and a book fair through Nov. 25. Student government representative Brianna Aguilar announced 'Winter Funderland' for Dec. 17.
On personnel, the Board ratified the hire of Corey Kauterman as a paraprofessional, effective Nov. 11, 2024, and approved a Basic Skills teacher's FMLA leave from Nov. 21, 2024, to approximately Jan. 10, 2025. The Board also approved professional development requests and a slate of volunteer appointments.
The Board's Finance/Facilities/Technology committee presented and the Board approved financial reports for October 2024, including the Board Secretary’s Report and Treasurer’s Report, appropriation adjustments and payment of bills. The Board authorized multiple field trips and use-of-facilities requests contingent on required documentation such as proof of insurance.
Two formal resolutions were approved by roll call: Resolution 2024‑25 #14 authorizing submission of the District Performance Report and declarations page, and Resolution 2024‑25 #15 accepting Holt McNally’s audit of the district’s 2023–24 financial statements.
Under Student Services, the Board approved the BASE class fundraiser and authorized a contract with the New Jersey Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired to provide services for student OD‑0438 from Nov. 4, 2024, through June 30, 2024, at a cost of $1,909. The motion to approve that contract was carried by roll call.
The meeting included two opportunities for public comment; minutes record that the Board opened and closed public comment for action items and later for general comment, with the Board reminding speakers about confidentiality limits for litigation, student, personnel or negotiation matters.
