Board formalizes shared‑use agreement with township for athletic fields

The Old Bridge Township Board of Education on April 14 approved a written shared‑service agreement with the township that spells out use, permitting and maintenance responsibilities for athletic fields used by both school teams and municipal recreation programs.
Mr. Wiedell told trustees the district has had informal understandings about field use and permitting but wants those arrangements memorialized on paper. “Really what we did... all we wanted to do was just kind of consummate that in writing,” he said, adding there is no new financial obligation tied to the agreement.
A board member said a written agreement is important for insurance and liability: “If we don't have a written agreement, obviously, insurance companies may deny claims,” the board member said, noting the district and township have exchanged certificates of insurance in the past to ensure coverage.
The agreement lists which entity grooms and maintains each facility and clarifies permitting and reservation procedures. Mr. Wiedell said the signed agreement will be filed in the business office and can be updated if new fields or timeframes change.
Trustees approved the item by roll call.
