Ogdensburg to order title searches for several parcels before possible auction

The Ogdensburg Mayor and Council reviewed a draft ordinance listing multiple borough parcels for potential auction and directed staff to obtain title searches for properties with deed and tax-map discrepancies. Borough Attorney Robert McBriar told the council that several listed parcels (noted in the minutes as lots 22, 23, 24 and 25) show inconsistencies between tax maps, property record cards and recorded deeds, and that a title company used for prior auctions estimates roughly $400–$500 per search.
Council members discussed removing the disputed parcels from the draft ordinance or completing title searches before advertising an auction. CFO Mike Marceau recommended consulting MaxSpann (the auction firm) about running auctions in November or waiting until spring. Mayor George P. Hutnick directed staff to reach out to MaxSpann and to move forward with the title searches so the borough knows the status of each parcel.
Attorney McBriar said conducting searches sooner rather than later will clarify ownership records and reduce the risk of later challenges. The minutes record no formal roll-call motion to authorize a specific vendor; the council reached consensus to proceed with title searches and follow up on auction timing.
