Council members on Sept. 25 described steps to comply with New Jersey reporting and replacement requirements for lead service lines and galvanized piping.
Councilman Ciasullo said the council formed a subcommittee (Ciasullo, Poyer and Ruitenberg) to assemble required reports and assured the council that Trenton confirmed there would be no immediate fines if the borough submits the outstanding reports. The subcommittee will gather existing records, prepare an initial filing with the state, and follow up with resident notifications explaining next steps. Ciasullo said the first set of reports will be submitted soon and that most reports are due annually thereafter; some reports will change over time as replacement work progresses.
Councilwoman Ruitenberg said she is developing a resident survey (paper and online options) to collect data on potential lead or galvanized service lines. Councilman Poyer and other subcommittee members said the borough will work with the DPW to scope necessary work and to seek available funding for future replacement projects. The council identified galvanized pipes as part of the review and noted the possibility of funding for future remediation.
Next steps: the subcommittee will finalize the resident survey, send a separate mailing to affected residents, submit the initial state reports and return to the council with a timeline and funding options.
