Board approves rezoning for family event center at 30 Dot Road

Applicant Corey Holloway told the board he and his wife plan to convert existing structures on the property into a community event center for birthday parties, anniversaries, weddings and a seasonal farmers market. Holloway said the facility’s expected occupancy would be between about 80 and 100 people pending fire-marshall review.
Neighbors spoke in favor. Tina Brown, who lives directly across Dot Road, said she supports the application because the facility would be community-oriented rather than an outside investor-run use: "If there has to be a business across the street, I would love for it to be something like this," she said.
Commissioners asked about hours and staffing. Holloway said events would generally conclude by 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and that he and his wife would manage check-in and opening/closing duties. After a short round of questions, a commissioner moved to approve the rezoning; the motion passed on a recorded vote.
Next steps: the applicant will complete fire marshal occupancy determinations, any required permitting, and return to county staff as needed for inspections and licensing.
