The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council approved entering into a memorandum of understanding with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Historical Society to pursue a future local history museum.
City Manager Arman Ranjan said the agreement would allow repurposing one building at a former Nike missile site on the civic center campus to showcase the society’s collection of Peninsula artifacts. Ranjan noted the historical society has been seeking a permanent location for a museum since 2006 and identified the society’s founder as recorded in the meeting update.
The MOU authorizes study of feasibility, programming and use of the identified building; it does not itself authorize construction or a final lease or capital expenditure. The council approved the MOU during the meeting update; no vote tally or funding commitment was provided in the summary.
Next steps: staff and the historical society will proceed with feasibility work under the MOU and report back to the council with findings and recommendations before any binding commitments are made.
