North Wilkesboro approves PARTF grant application for Memorial Park; mayor flags separate federal diversion grant

Town staff on April 7 received the board’s approval to apply for a Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant to support renovations at Memorial Park.
Planning & Inspections Director Joseph Kamperman and Town Manager Eddie Holland described a $500,000 PARTF application that would fund light replacement plus renovations, repaving, and facility upfits; the PARTF program requires a 1:1 local match. Kamperman said approval decisions for PARTF awards are expected in late summer or early fall and that staff are pursuing additional grants to serve as matching funds.
Commissioner Andrew Palmer moved to approve filing the PARTF application; Commissioner Michael Parsons seconded and the motion passed unanimously (5-0).
Separately, Mayor Randy Huffman told the board he had been informed of a $1 million federal judicial grant opportunity, noting Sharon Pope had worked with the sheriff’s office on the matter. The mayor said the grant would support judicial diversion programs to move people out of jail and into employment and housing; no formal action on the federal grant was taken at the meeting.
