North Wilkesboro rezones small parcel off Jones Dancy Street to R-6 residential

The North Wilkesboro Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a zoning map amendment April 7 to change Parcel ID 1403094 (off Jones Dancy Street) from GB (General Business) to R-6 (High Density Residential).
Planner Forest Pearson opened a public hearing, noting the 0.27-acre parcel abuts residential uses, that town sewer serves the area and water is provided by a water association, and that notices were distributed to adjoining owners and published as required. Pearson said the Planning Board recommended approval on Feb. 12, 2026.
Commissioner Sandra Espin moved to adopt the meeting’s proposed consistency statement and approve the rezoning; Commissioner Kristopher Hurley seconded and the motion passed unanimously (5-0). The board’s consistency language cited Comprehensive Plan goals encouraging infill, flexible land-use controls, and traditional neighborhood development.
