Committee members received several brief updates: a backcountry airstrip rehab near Copperglobe/Sandgemoor's Bench was reported successful, BLM staff described recent heavy rains and search‑and‑rescue response in Wild Horse canyon, and the Emery County travel office said it had state grant funding to help print updated trail maps.
Airstrip and events: Representative(s) for the airstrip rehab reported a successful project and said the first plane landed safely; staff offered to arrange a guided tour of the airstrip for commissioners. BLM staff also said they are coordinating a film screening of Galaxy Quest at Goblin Valley on Oct. 17 with the Utah Film Commission and Film Trail.
Travel Bureau maps: Amy (Emery County travel office) said the travel office received state grant funding to print maps and reported the county's share would be matched (reported as $6,000 from the state and $6,000 local match). Staff are finalizing map content with BLM and GIS before ordering.
Other updates: Park staff reported lower water levels at one boat launch and that seasonal trail marking and winter preparations are underway. BLM noted state crews will assist on selected projects and that volunteers have been helping to maintain facilities during the recent federal shutdown.
Next steps: Staff will follow through on coordinating tours and public notifications for events and will proceed with map ordering once GIS and BLM confirmations are complete.
