Jurassic National Monument visitor center out to bid; construction scoped to begin next March

S5 said the visitor center project is currently advertised and open to bids for about 20 days. According to S5, the scope in the bid documents schedules construction to begin in March of next year, and contractors were told to plan on protecting exposed paleontological resources during work. S5 said the visitor center and trails are expected to remain as open as possible while work near the quarry is fenced and staged to protect bones and collection areas.
Members encouraged contractors and staff to coordinate public access plans so visitors can continue to have interpretive experiences when feasible. S8 asked whether the park would close during construction; S8 was told that the contractor briefing directed firms to plan for continuing visitor access where safely possible but that final decisions depend on the awarded contractor’s schedule.
No construction contract was awarded during this meeting and no formal county action was taken; staff will monitor the bid period and report back once an award or schedule change occurs.
