Planning Commission reviews 2026 CIP, delays selection of downtown parking representatives and honors outgoing officials

The Zeeland Planning Commission reviewed the draft Capital Improvement Project (CIP) list on Nov. 6, 2025, and agreed to postpone selecting representatives for a proposed downtown parking group until new commissioners are seated following recent elections.
Zoning Administrator Timothy Maday reminded commissioners that the CIP list, updated annually, helps City Council set priorities and allocate funds. Maday encouraged commissioners to submit proposed projects on a blank worksheet that staff will distribute and asked that completed worksheets be returned by Nov. 21, 2025, so staff can compile the 2026 CIP list for council consideration.
On downtown parking, Maday said staff are assessing possible lease opportunities, public and private parking options, and potential partnerships with local businesses, and that discussions with a parking consultant are ongoing. Maday recommended forming an internal parking group with representatives from the Planning Commission and the Shopping Area Redevelopment Board (SARB). Because the commission’s membership may change after the recent election, staff recommended delaying appointments; the intention is to appoint two commissioners to the group at the Planning Commission meeting on Dec. 4, 2025. Commissioners agreed to postpone the selection until that meeting.
Maday also used the meeting to publicly thank Mayor Kevin Klynstra and Councilman Glenn Kass for their years of service and leadership on city development and community projects. Both officials expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve and confidence in incoming leadership.
The meeting adjourned at 6:22 p.m. after Commissioner Dan Klompmaker moved to adjourn and Mayor Kevin Klynstra supported the motion; all voted aye.
