The Abita Springs Town Council on July 7 adopted a resolution levying the 2026 tax roll, setting three millages that will appear on this year’s property-tax roll.
The resolution, read into the record by the mayor, levied a general millage of 6.87 mills, parks/playgrounds/streetlights at 2.62 mills, and water/sewer/street bonds at 3.75 mills. Staff indicated the water/sewer bond millage had been reduced from 5.00 mills "through the instruction and direction of our bond attorney" so the town collects only the amount necessary to meet bond obligations.
A public speaker asked for clarification; staff confirmed the reduction will lower annual bond-related tax collections by roughly $40,000 compared with the previous rate. The council then conducted a roll-call vote; the chair recorded unanimous approval with the following responses as read aloud: Alderman Boudreau — Aye; Alderman Contois — Aye; Alderman Saussi — Aye; Alderman Tompley — Aye.
The council did not attach additional changes to the tax rates at the meeting. Staff said the revenue-sharing agreement and related timing (the shared-sales-tax agreement) remain in effect through the late 2020s and that the town will need to monitor obligations and potential roll-ups in 2027.
