Shelby council adopts ordinance setting residential garbage rate at $18 per month

The Shelby City Council on July 15 passed Ordinance 0725 to set the monthly residential solid-waste collection fee at $18, effective Aug. 1, 2025. Council member Pat Honeywell introduced the ordinance and moved to pass the first reading and waive the second and third readings; Council member Jackie Hursey seconded the motion, and the roll call was Honeywell-Yes, Hursey-Yes, True-Yes. Mayor Ron Kroll presided.
The ordinance amends Chapter 10 to add a fee of $18.00 per month for each residential premise and states the ordinance will be effective after final passage, approval and publication as provided by law. The council recorded the first reading as passed on July 15, 2025 and waived the remaining readings.
The measure means residential customers in Shelby will begin the new monthly charge on Aug. 1, 2025. The council did not record further public comment or debate on the ordinance in the minutes. The ordinance text was filed in the meeting packet as ORDINANCE#0725 and includes standard repealer and severability clauses.
The council moved on to other business following the ordinance vote.
