Council approves $15,000 allocation for July 4 parade security

Parks Director Lina Hicks summarized the allocation of the $15,000 the council had previously authorized: $8,500 for barriers lining the parade route, $2,500 to cover overtime for six additional city staff assigned to the event, and $4,000 to the Chamber of Commerce for hiring private security and event staffing. "The funds have already been authorized by council. This would just kind of break it up of how we're going to spend it," Hicks said.
Councilmember Kuman Frazier moved to approve the resolution with a second; the council approved it by voice vote.
Why it matters: the allocation clarifies how previously authorized funds will be spent to staff and secure the July 4 parade and is intended to cover barriers, staff overtime and contracted security. The resolution passed at the meeting and the council adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
