Candia board approves routine policy reviews; accepts snow ordinance pending final wording

The Candia Board of Selectmen on April 13 voted 5-0 to accept routine policy reviews: the Right to Know Policy, the Annual Investment Policy review and the Annual Credit Card Policy review.
On the Snow Ordinance, the board voted to accept the draft as Chief Shevlin amends it; Chief Shevlin told the board the enforcement language is intended to treat violations as administrative violations rather than misdemeanors and that he will return with final wording. The board noted frozen snow on roadways can create hazardous conditions and agreed to finalize language after the chief reviews it.
Selectman Boyd Chivers announced the annual roadside cleanup with Candia's Women's Club and the Boy Scouts participating; blue bags will be available at the public library, Recycle Center and Town Hall, and volunteers were asked not to leave filled bags on roadsides because the state gives a charitable donation tied to collection. Administrative Assistant Linda Chandonnet updated the board on preparations for Candia's 250th Celebration scheduled for June 27, 2026, including use of the Smyth Memorial Building, a historical flyer for the building, plans for a refurbished Soldiers Monument and challenges with fireworks insurance and volunteer staffing. The board agreed Recycle Center staff could assist with morning tasks and then help at the event in the afternoon.
The meeting adjourned at 8:16 p.m. on a motion by Selectman Patrick Moran, seconded by Selectman Boyd Chivers; vote 5-0.
