The Hobart City Redevelopment Authority approved several routine and substantive items during the meeting, including contract renewals for downtown businesses, a design-and-bid agreement to prepare grant-ready plans, and permission for a downtown film shoot.
Board action included approval of renewal or license agreements for six downtown businesses (Burkhos Bari Grill at 230 Main St.; Cafe 339 at 339 Main St.; Montego Bay Grill at 322 Main St.; Rangers at the Clock Tower at 437 E. 3rd St.; Sip Coffee House at 310 Main St.; and Farmhouse Coffee at 223 Center St.) through Oct. 31. The board also accepted a motion to cancel the annual sidewalk event.
Staff presented a recommendation to retain 1st Group engineers to prepare a 2026 CCMG design-and-bid package and associated bid documents (staff estimated $43,000 for the design work so the project can be bid when grant funding is available); the board moved to approve consideration so the city can proceed with design when funding is confirmed.
A late film-shoot application was added to the agenda and approved after applicants and staff discussed logistics, daytime shooting, use of sidewalks, and coordination with police and pedestrian flow; the board authorized the shoot for March 22–25 with conditions the applicants coordinate with the police department.
The board set an unsafe-building order for 312 North Canton St. over to the April 1 meeting after staff reported the owner had pulled building permits and the site was under a stop-work order while the owner secures required trades (plumbing). The appeals of Plan Commission decisions on the fill permit were consolidated and deferred to the Board of Works for determination at its April 18 meeting.
Votes were taken by voice for the listed items; the chair called for "Aye" votes and routine approvals passed by voice. Where final determinations were required (appeals and the unsafe-building order), the board deferred action to allow staff follow-up and additional information.
