Commission plans trail and pasture work, considers signage at VVCA

April Fournier reported a tree down across a trail at the Shirley Waters Conservation Area/Town Forest; the commission noted Chair Zack Boyajian may have already removed it. Commissioners said previous brush piles and downed material remain near the Shaw pasture parking area and asked Commissioner Jeremy Letendre to remove a brush pile with a tractor and truck in the near future.
Members discussed strategies to remove invasive species from the Shaw pasture and identified three possible partners for the work: the NH Conservation Corps, the Natural Resources Conservation Service and NH Department of Transportation for roadside issues. Commissioners described on‑the‑ground work completed April 25–26, when Boyajian, Fournier, Bob Mann and volunteer Mark Thomas removed fallen logs and perimeter debris and Boyajian mowed the field perimeter.
The commission also discussed outreach to encourage land protection, including updating an older brochure and improving notice of proposed developments; commissioners said a liaison to the planning board could help and noted Jeremy Letendre may serve in that role.
Finally, Chair Boyajian reported he contacted Dan Humphrey to request permission to erect a roadside sign for the VVCA, which the commission said was not included in the property's easement deed; Humphrey did not respond to the first e‑mail and Boyajian will follow up. No formal votes were taken on maintenance or signage at the meeting.
