The Cemetery Trustees discovered that a trust was never created for a burial lot purchased by Dede Hammond in Pineground Cemetery and took steps to correct the record.
Fred Shaw, Cemetery Trustee, will submit the sale-of-lot receipt and bank-deposit verification to the Trustees of the Trust Fund so an official trust can be created for the Hammond lot (Row #3, Lot #7). The minutes state the Hammond check was deposited in the town’s bank account but no trust record was found.
Separately, the trustees reported they had contacted the Town Treasurer about a discrepancy in the 2025 Cemetery General Expense spreadsheet and had not yet received a response. The trustees plan to raise the issue at the Department Heads meeting.
On governance, the trustees requested that the Select Board appoint Gloria Beachy and Peter Hammen as Cemetery Trustee alternates for one-year terms. The minutes record the request but do not show a Select Board response.
Next steps: Fred Shaw will forward documentation to the Trustees of the Trust Fund to create the Hammond trust; the trustees will follow up with the Town Treasurer and seek Select Board action on the requested alternates.
