The Hobart City Redevelopment Authority voted to increase the available education and workforce training grant pool for the 2027 cycle from $30,000 to $50,000 and approved a scope change to a Maryville School Corporation project.
Miguel (speaker 1) opened the discussion and noted the board’s prior recommendation to raise the 2027 grant pool. Chair (speaker 2) made the motion “to approve the increase of the education workforce training grant funding that we move from 30,000 to $50,000,” which was seconded and approved by voice vote.
Kate (speaker 6), introduced earlier in the meeting as the commission’s new developer, read a letter from Terrell Taylor, construction trades instructor at Maryville High School, describing the revised project. The letter said the program will shift from eight outdoor food pantry boxes to eight indoor multipurpose distribution cabinets (one for each Maryville school) to store and distribute food, clothing and personal hygiene items and to provide a hands-on construction trades learning opportunity. Kate summarized staff’s view that the revision reduces spoilage and vandalism risks and strengthens student learning outcomes.
The commission voted to accept the revised application on the record after staff confirmed the change stayed within the originally approved budget and that materials (including a photo of the proposed unit) had been submitted by the school. The motion passed by voice vote.
Next steps: staff will document the approved scope change and proceed with program administration under existing budget authority for the education and workforce training grant program.
