Newry selectpersons approve routine motions, table tree-growth penalty

The Town of Newry selectpersons met Nov. 12 and unanimously approved several routine actions while postponing a question on a tree-growth penalty.
The board voted to approve the minutes of the Oct. 23, 2024 meeting after a motion from Selectman Virgil Conkright and a second from Selectman Mandy Berry. The minutes record that warrants were signed and approved earlier in the meeting.
Selectpersons also approved a renewal of a cannabis license for “JAMY” and signed a conditional agreement for a development identified as The Pines, following motions by Selectmen Mandy Berry and Gary Wight respectively; both motions passed unanimously.
A motion from Selectman Wight to grant a real-estate abatement for parcel R14-019-002 was approved unanimously. The board additionally voted to permit the town administrator to electronically sign liquor licenses after the Select Board has approved them, following a motion by Selectman Virgil Conkright.
The board unanimously voted to table consideration of a Tree Growth Penalty so staff can provide a clearer breakdown of the charge — whether it represents interest, penalty, or back taxes — and revisit the item at the next meeting.
The meeting adjourned at 9:48 a.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for Nov. 26, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. at the Town Office.
