Newry selectmen authorize contract sign-off, set $20,000 chimney budget and record FEMA payment

At the Oct. 1 meeting the Town of Newry Selectmen approved several administrative and financial items. Selectman Mandy Berry moved to authorize 'Retta' to sign the SJR Engineering contract once available; Selectman Gary Wight seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Selectman Gary Wight moved to allocate $20,000 in next year’s budget for the Town Office chimney; Selectman Mandy Berry seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The minutes also note an additional $10,000 for SJR once that contract comes through for The Pines project; that update was recorded but not presented as a completed disbursement.
Deputy Clerk Amy R. Henley reported the town has collected $2,821,686.41 in payments to date. Town Administrator Loretta Powers reported the town received $85,514.45 in FEMA funds for the May 2023 storm. Powers also reported that Jack Taylor completed drone work and will deliver a CD, and that Pat Fenney will perform cemetery repairs; the minutes note a broken stone at Foster Cemetery and a request about digging an urn hole.
