The Town of Newry Selectmen voted Oct. 1 not to reimburse homeowners who replaced a culvert on Branch Road. Selectman Virgil Conkright made the motion; Selectman Mandy Berry seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Separately, during the Road Commissioner/Code Officer report, Joelle Corey’s report prompted a recommendation from Selectman Virgil Conkright that the town develop a Plan B for winter roads in case Cross Excavation is unable to fulfill its contract. The minutes record the recommendation but do not show a formal vote to adopt a contingency plan.
Town Administrator Loretta Powers also reported that the town mailed a sympathy card to Cross Excavation and is awaiting updates on the transfer station. The minutes do not specify contractual remedies, timelines, or costs associated with switching contractors or executing a contingency plan.
