Ware County reviews GDOT Safety Action Plan restriping bids; cost trimmed to nearly match grant

County Manager James Shubert told commissioners that Ware County received a Safety Action Plan (SAP) grant from the Georgia Department of Transportation to stripe or restripe roughly 63 miles of county roads. Statewide Engineering handled the bidding process.
Shubert reported NPR South, LLC submitted an initial low bid of $427,542.99. After removing Beach Road and Lucy Moore Road from the SAP application and substituting Zion Hill Road and South Plant Avenue/Griffin Road, he said the project cost fell to $409,900.93, which the manager described as $689.93 above the grant amount. He also reminded the commission that the SAP award requires a 10% county match.
Shubert said the item was added to the regular meeting agenda for formal action; no final contract award or county expenditure was approved during the work session. Commissioner Leonard Burse asked clarifying questions about matching requirements.
The work-session record notes Statewide Engineering conducted bid work and that the county is moving forward with scope adjustments to reduce the local funding gap before final action.
