Rezoning request for 2401 Adams would allow animals; county staff cite nuisance concerns

Interim Planning Director Dustin Minchew told the Commission May 11 that Amanda Raleigh has applied to rezone an approximately 1.01-acre parcel at 2401 Adams Street (parcel "051B02 013") from R-75 MH (Residential Manufactured Home) to A-1 (Agriculture/Forestry) so the property owner may keep animals, including poultry.
Minchew said the parcel had been zoned A-1 in 1977 before being changed to R-75 MH. He told the board that stables, chicken coops and similar animal housing must be sited 100 feet from property lines under county standards. County Manager James Shubert and Minchew noted that code-enforcement officers have previously reported problems with animals getting loose on other properties and cautioned that the county cannot rezone property in a way that would create a nuisance for neighbors.
Raylan Guy, a District 3 commissioner candidate, spoke in support and said the property had been updated since an older online street-view image that staff showed, and urged the county to consider ordinances similar to the city's that permit chickens with regulations. No opposition was recorded during the public hearing.
The Commission recorded the rezoning request for placement on the June 8 regular meeting agenda for formal consideration and any required public-notice or regulatory steps.
