Ware County adds mowing contract, road pipe change order and airport lease amendment to regular meeting agenda

The Ware County Board of Commissioners added three operational items to its regular meeting agenda after staff presentations at the March 9 work session.
County Manager James Shubert presented a proposed one‑year extension to the right‑of‑way mowing contract for $193,320. Shubert said the contract no longer includes arm mowing along the back edge of rights‑of‑way and will cover three mowing cycles and three litter‑removal cycles. He said the contract is funded by T‑SPLOST. The item was added to the regular meeting agenda for action.
Shubert also requested a change order with Coastal Engineering to replace existing cross drains at six locations on Jim Mixon Road, to cut and reseal the asphalt surface on Camp Branch Road to access and reseal the pipe, and to repave all sections disturbed by the work. That change order was added to the regular meeting agenda.
On an airport issue, Shubert explained that a land lease previously approved Jan. 12 to allow Michael and Vickie Franklin to construct a private aircraft hangar required a site change after the FAA did not approve the original site. The proposed new site is about 80 by 100 feet (approximately 8,000 square feet); the annual lease rate is $0.04 per square foot, or $320 per year. The amendment was added to the regular meeting agenda.
There was no county manager report. Commissioners raised district maintenance concerns including trash blowing from a collection truck on Central Avenue, concrete/paving problems at Seminole Trail and Highland Drive and sinking concrete on Andrea Drive; Commissioner Timmy Lucas asked about loose rocks on Paschall Road, to which staff said the issue should improve as asphalt heats in summer. Discussion also noted that flashing lights at Wacona Drive and Jamestown Highway are under Georgia Department of Transportation jurisdiction and that the US‑1/Pebble Hill Road study remains a topic of interest.
Commissioner Jon Tindall moved to adjourn the work session; Commissioner Timmy Lucas seconded. The motion passed unanimously and the session adjourned at 4:25 p.m.
