County issues $20,000 opioid-settlement payment to New Leash on Life Recovery and Rescue

The county administrator told the board the organization has opened its facility in Edgecumbe, is licensed and operating a kennel where clients receive job training and work in the community as part of their recovery. The administrator said the payment is part of a revolving reserve that has funded numerous local grants since 2024; while the county previously distributed larger awards, current settlements are arriving in smaller periodic amounts.
Commissioners moved and seconded to authorize the payment from the opioid settlement grant reserve account and approved the $20,000 disbursement by voice vote.
The administrator said the county has awarded nearly $300,000 in prior grants from the settlement proceeds and that future settlement payments (for example, from Purdue) remain pending and unspecified. The county recorded the New Leash payment as $20,000 and noted that award sizes will depend on periodic settlement receipts.
