McConico said the plan must be updated every five years to remain eligible for state and federal grants, and that some components are updated on a 10-year cycle. He told the board the draft — more than 180 pages — includes an updated work program and transportation element and reflected public outreach conducted during the update process.
The presenter said regulations require at least three stakeholder meetings during an update; he reported that the commission held at least five such meetings while preparing the draft. McConico also said the Commission must hold a public hearing before it may vote to approve submission of the plan to the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for the next step in the review process.
The board recorded no public comments and placed the plan on the June 8 regular meeting agenda for formal consideration and any potential vote to submit the draft to the Department of Community Affairs.
Next step: The Commission is scheduled to consider approving submission of the plan on June 8, 2026.
