The Sharon Board of Education voted to transfer $12,611 within the 2024–25 operating budget to cover a shortfall for the eighth‑grade class trip. Board member Philip O’Reilly moved the transfer and Nancy Hegy Martin seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The transfer reallocates funds from budget lines 111‑1106 (Special Programs) and/or 510‑2700 (Transportation) into line 321‑1001 (Assembly Student Activities) to cover the trip balance. Principal Carol Tomkalski told the board she will contact the Sharon Community Foundation to explore grant support after Hegy Martin asked whether a grant had been considered.
Board members did not provide a line‑by‑line breakdown of the original trip budget in the public minutes. The board’s action was recorded in the meeting minutes as a formal motion and recorded as carried unanimously. The district said the change will be reflected in the next draft of budget documents circulated to the board.
