Newry approves supplemental life insurance for employees; clerks report tax and training deadlines

Selectmen approved adding Maine Employee Health supplemental life insurance coverage for town employees at no cost to the town on Feb. 18. The motion was made by Selectman Mandy Berry and seconded by Selectman Virgil Conkright and carried unanimously.
Deputy Clerk Amy R. Henley told the board that tax payments are due March 31 and that Homestead Exemption applications are due April 1 and available on the town website. She also said the Town Office will close at noon on Feb. 25 so staff can attend motor-vehicle training.
Town Administrator Loretta Powers said the town is signed up for a household hazardous waste event on Sept. 6 and reported a workers' compensation audit refund of $1,274. Powers said an auditor visited for two days and that she was finalizing a small set of outstanding items for the audit.
The board continued budget review and will resume budget discussion at the next meeting.
