Council approves water-main and sewer-design agreements tied to Continental expansion; confirms two appointments

Mount Vernon councilors on June 15 approved design agreements to extend water and relocate sanitary sewer infrastructure tied to local development and system reliability, and they confirmed two mayoral appointments.
City Manager Nathan McKenna presented a resolution (#2026-27) to approve a design agreement for a water-main extension along Woodland Drive to serve the east-side Continental Tire expansion and to add redundancy around the Continental property. The council approved the resolution on a unanimous vote.
Council also approved a design agreement (#2026-28) to relocate a major sanitary sewer feeder from beneath the old high school football field to Casey Avenue; McKenna said the existing line runs roughly 10 to 12 feet deep under the field and relocation would reduce long-term service risk to the treatment-plant feeder.
On the personnel items, the council consented to Mayor John Lewis’s reappointment of Nicholas Lemay as Trustee of the Rend Lake Conservancy District and approved the appointment of Briannah Nelson to the City Housing Authority Commission; both actions passed unanimously.
