Assessor Penny Haddad told the Town Board that Walton’s property records are ‘‘very clean’’ for the town’s inventory, which covers about 3,500 properties. She said only a small number of parcels appear to be missing inventory items such as decks or porches that are not visible from the public right-of-way and that those items will likely need to be estimated.
Haddad said regular work continues: verifying sales information, tracking real estate listings, and entering data from building permits, demolitions and other new construction. Valuation and field review will begin as soon as data collection is complete, with a goal to finish by the end of the year.
She also reported that questions about the STAR school tax exemption have increased after school tax bills were mailed; most residents have received STAR exemptions or credits, but a few cases require follow-up because of income-eligibility or ownership questions. Haddad advised residents with STAR questions to consult the State website or contact her for assistance.
