Walton officials report generator project near completion, Red Cross names shelter and NYSDOT shared‑services deal noted

Supervisor Joseph Cetta updated the board Dec. 9 on emergency planning and infrastructure matters, saying work on a generator project is nearly finished and that the American Red Cross had established the Baptist Church as a shelter for the area.
“We have clarified that the Red Cross has established the Baptist Church as a shelter,” Cetta said, and he urged residents to maintain a 72‑hour emergency supply. Councilwoman Patty Wood said a donated tree for Veteran’s Plaza exists but planting is being deferred until spring for logistics.
Highway Superintendent Jeff Offnick said the highway crew has been preparing the fleet for winter operations and reported that the town received a Shared Services Agreement from the New York State Department of Transportation that will be in effect from Dec. 14, 2024 to Dec. 14, 2028 and is not to exceed $25,000.
The board discussed coordinating emergency planning among the town, village, school and fire department; Councilwoman Wood and Supervisor Cetta agreed volunteers and interagency meetings will be needed to finalize a local emergency plan. No formal vote was recorded on the generator, shelter designation or the shared services agreement during the meeting.
