Robert Koszarek, a consultant from appraisal firm KLW, told the Walton Town Board on Feb. 10 that the town-and-village property reassessment is in its finalization phase and remains on schedule. Supervisor Joseph Cetta asked whether the reassessment was meeting its timeline goal; Koszarek said the work would finish when anticipated.
The board received related detail in the assessor’s monthly report, which says staff are processing exemption renewals, updating property records, and preparing to calculate new agriculture and forest exemption amounts after preliminary assessments are complete. The assessor’s notes also say the town created parcels to match the State’s advisory appraisals and that KLW met with local staff on Jan. 29 to coordinate public meetings and mailings.
Board members did not vote on the reassessment at the Feb. 10 meeting. The reassessment will affect the valuation data used for future tax calculations and is being shared with residents through planned outreach and mailings, according to the assessor notes shared with the board.
The board’s next scheduled discussion of related emergency planning and outreach is separate from the assessment timeline; KLW’s work and the assessor’s calculations will determine exemption amounts and final valuation data used in subsequent tax notices.
