The Transfer Station Working Group approved prior meeting minutes and focused on finalizing attendant job descriptions at its June 11 meeting at Town Hall in New Marlborough.
The motion to approve the previous meeting minutes passed after a second; Tara White abstained. The group did not record the names of the mover and seconder. Following the vote, members reviewed a draft attendant job description and agreed that Attendant 1 should be primarily responsible for collecting fees and for scheduling hauling and staffing while preserving flexibility for other fee-collection arrangements as the point-of-sale system develops.
Why it matters: Assigning fee-collection responsibility and clarifying scheduling duties will shape day-to-day operations and accountability at the transfer station once a new point-of-sale system is in place. Group members said clearer, simpler language about compliance will reduce confusion during hiring and training.
Members also agreed to simplify references to federal and state workplace and environmental standards in the job description; rather than citing specific OSHA and MassDEP rules, the description will refer more generally to "compliance with town policy and applicable rules." Gardiner Morse will revise the job description as discussed and forward it to Mari Enoch for review and transmittal to the Select Board.
The group discussed training and accident reporting, noting the need for an easy incident/injury/property-damage form and that station staff should be trained on camera incident-retention procedures and accident documentation. The possibility of placing an automated external defibrillator (AED) at the station was raised as part of broader safety planning.
Next steps: Gardiner Morse will submit the revised job description to Mari Enoch for Select Board review; the working group recorded follow-up assignments for developing incident reporting and staff training.
