Darmstadt council grants one-time sewer-bill adjustment after homeowner records two large leaks

Darmstadt — The Town Council voted on March 18 to make a one-time exception to the town’s policy limiting sewer-bill adjustments to one per year after a property at 11214 N St Joseph Ave experienced two separate large water leaks.
Clerk-Treasurer Mallory Lowe reported the first leak measured 57,700 gallons and produced $1,500.46 in sewer charges. A second, larger leak measured 324,970 gallons and resulted in a sewer bill of $8,347.92. Lowe said Sewer Superintendent Aaron Enlow confirmed that the second leak did not enter the sewer system, and on that basis the council agreed to grant an exception to the usual adjustment policy.
Cecil Poag moved to make the exception; Ray Engler seconded and the motion passed on a 4-0 voice vote.
