Darmstadt council holds public 2025 budget hearing; sewer fund reported over $597,000 spent

DARMSTADT, Ind. — The Darmstadt Town Council on Sept. 17 held a public hearing on the town’s 2025 budget and received a warning from Clerk‑Treasurer Mallory Lowe about the separate sewer fund’s finances.
Lowe told the council the budget submitted to the state covers only town (tax) funds and that the sewer department operates from sewer bills paid by roughly 550 properties. “The sewer department has spent over $597,000 this year, SO far, and the current balance is $431,257,” Lowe said, and she urged the council to monitor sewer spending for the remainder of the year.
Lowe also said the Department of Local Government Finance reviewed the draft budget and that the council will hold a formal budget adoption vote next month. There were no public comments during the hearing.
The clerk‑treasurer briefed the council on related administrative items: she is working with insurance agents to renew the town’s coverage and said improved mail delivery recently brought in a couple hundred sewer payments within a week. Lowe also announced that staff plan to attend the AIM Ideas Summit Oct. 8–10 and the AIM Roundtable Oct. 23 in Boonville.
What happens next: The council is scheduled to consider final adoption of the 2025 town budget at its October meeting.
