Lanett council approves three nuisance abatements, appoints Chapman to regional water board and tables Tucker appointment

The City Council of the City of Lanett on Oct. 20, 2025, approved three nuisance-abatement resolutions, confirmed an appointment to the Chattahoochee Valley Water Supply District and tabled a second appointment after a roll-call vote. The council also completed routine approvals and heard brief staff reports before adjourning.
The council unanimously approved Resolution 10-25-08, confirming the cost of nuisance abatement at 118 Veterans Memorial Parkway (owners listed as James H. & Theresa J. Wallace; Troy Wallace noted). Mayor Jamie L. Heard read the resolution; Councilmember Angelia Thomas moved it and Councilmember Tifton Dobbs seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
Councilmembers also passed Resolution 10-25-09, confirming nuisance-abatement costs for 839 N. 12th Avenue (owners listed as Robert & Rose Scott; Karl O. Scott noted). The resolution was read by Councilmember Tamalita Autry, moved by Councilmember Ronnie Tucker and seconded by Councilmember Angelia Thomas; the motion passed unanimously.
Resolution 10-25-10 confirmed abatement costs for 602, 604 and 606 S. 8th Street (owners: David C. Roberts & Norma Jean Roberts). Councilmember Angelia Thomas read the resolution; Councilmember Ronnie Tucker moved it and Tifton Dobbs seconded. The motion carried unanimously.
On appointments to the regional water board, the council approved Resolution 10-25-11 to appoint Richard Chapman to the Chattahoochee Valley Water Supply District. Mayor Heard read the appointment; Councilmember Ronnie Tucker moved it and Councilmember Angelia Thomas seconded. Mayor Heard said Chapman is replacing Randall Aiken, whose term expired.
A separate appointment (Resolution 10-25-12) to place Councilmember Ronnie Tucker on the Chattahoochee Valley Water Supply District was read by Mayor Heard and discussed. Councilmember Tony Malone moved to table the resolution; Attorney Gray advised the council could consider the motion. Councilmember Tifton Dobbs seconded. The subsequent roll-call vote was Malone — yes; Autry — yes; Tucker — abstained; Thomas — yes; Dobbs — yes; Heard — no. The motion to table carried.
The council also approved invoices via a motion from Councilmember Ronnie Tucker, seconded by Councilmember Angelia Thomas. Outgoing councilmembers received plaques from Mayor Heard and offered brief farewell remarks, thanking staff and constituents and highlighting local projects and service accomplishments. City Clerk Deborah Gilbert and Attorney Gray expressed appreciation to outgoing members.
Department heads offered brief updates: Water superintendent Richard Chapman reported work on a project on South 15th Avenue; Fire/EMS Chief Matt Shiver noted a school received a Leadership Award; Recreation Director Trent McCants promoted upcoming state championship games and community events including a Hispanic Heritage celebration and a Fall Festival; Street Superintendent Rockey Bolt reported sidewalk repairs and paving; Cemetery and Grounds Head Bo Lauderdale requested patience during right-of-way brush-truck operations; Airport Manager Craig Stapleton said infrastructure improvements and hangar-lease work were ongoing and that jet fuel was expected soon. The meeting was adjourned.
The council did not take further public testimony on the nuisance properties at the meeting; Code Enforcement Officer Johnny Wood had opened a public hearing earlier and said resolutions would be presented to abate the listed properties.
