Lanett council approves multiple liens, emergency roof repairs and FAA airport grant; mayor appoints housing authority member

The Lanett City Council unanimously approved a series of measures at its Aug. 4, 2025 meeting, including multiple property liens, acceptance of an emergency roof-repair contract for two city facilities, and airport grant and contract items. Mayor Jamie L. Heard presided over the meeting, which opened at 6:00 p.m. and adjourned at 6:25 p.m.
Council action and context: The council read and approved a package of lien resolutions affecting several properties, including Crown Castle PT, Inc., James Raymond Smith et al., James Roberts, Mary Alice Darden and Herbert J. Wells, Dwight Leroy Culberson and Manuel De Oliviera. The motions to impose the liens were moved and seconded by councilmembers during the meeting and carried unanimously.

Airport item clarified: Caleb Williams, a representative of GMC, LLC, answered a question from Councilmember Tony Malone and said the USDOT/FAA action relates to work on an access road and is a follow-up to a previously applied-for FAA grant. The council accepted both the GMC contract and the federal grant offer.
Appointment and local reports: Mayor Jamie L. Heard appointed Herchell Allen to the Housing Authority Board to complete the term of his late wife, Wanda. Staff member Johnny Wood told Councilmember Malone that the application to seek historic status for Nadine's Doll House in Oakwood Cemetery remains in process. Councilmember Tamalita Autry reminded residents that local schools start Wednesday; Councilmember Ronnie Tucker thanked the Street Department for installing a "No Dumping" sign on Phillips Road; Councilmember Angelia Finley Thomas thanked the Street Department for trimming trees in District 4 and praised Code Enforcement for work on dilapidated houses. Mayor Heard also reminded attendees that National Night Out will be held at the Rec Gym Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. due to impending weather.
