The Village of Royal Palm Beach’s finance staff on Thursday outlined a proposed increase to stormwater utility fees as part of the FY2027 budget package.
The Finance Director said the stormwater utility fund currently projects revenues of roughly $1.6 million and recommended a $1 monthly increase per equivalent residential unit (ERU), moving the monthly charge from $6.50 to $7.50. Staff estimated that, at the current fee level, the fund would generate an annual surplus of about $150,000; the $1 increase would raise the projected surplus to approximately $357,000, providing additional capacity for both planned drainage improvements and unanticipated repairs.
Staff noted the fund’s current balance is about $825,000 and said the extra revenue would be used to address both routine maintenance and resiliency improvements in the village stormwater system. The manager and public works staff described numerous outfall pipes and aging corrugated metal culverts across the village that will be priorities for repair.
