Louisa County supervisors set FY26 salaries, approve FY25 budget amendments and routine business
Summary
At its May 20 meeting the Louisa County Board of Supervisors set FY26 elected-official salaries (including a 15% sheriff increase), adopted FY25 budget amendments recognizing increased investment interest, approved two ordinance second readings and granted a right-of-way construction application; claims totaling $644,608.23 were approved.
The Louisa County Board of Supervisors on May 20 approved a package of administrative and fiscal actions, including new salary rates for elected officials for fiscal 2026, amendments to the fiscal 2025 budget and routine permits and claims.
By Resolution No. 202516 the Board set FY26 elected-official salaries effective July 1, 2026. The resolution records a 3% increase for the auditor ($66,253), recorder ($66,253), treasurer ($66,253), supervisors ($32,500) and county attorney ($90,468), and a 15% increase for the sheriff to $115,000. The Board noted it carried out duties described in Iowa Code § 331.907 after dissolving the county compensation board under Iowa Code § 331.905(7).
During a public hearing on amendments to the FY25 budget, Auditor Susan Schnedler said the additional revenue reflected increased interest earned on county investments. The Board approved Resolution No. 202517 to amend the FY25 budget to add $200,681 in expenditures (Public Safety & Legal Services $71,309; County Enviro & Education $19,313; Administration $110,059) and to recognize $317,956 in additional revenues (including $180,000 from use of money and property). The hearing record shows no public opposition.
The Board approved two ordinance second readings: an amendment to Decommissioning Plan #6 and Ordinance 13-1 to adopt the Iowa Traffic Code as local ordinance. It also approved Eastern Iowa Light & Power Cooperative’s application to bore underground across county right of way near the X99 bridge toward Hawkeye Woods.
Routine departmental updates were given: County Engineer Adam Shutt reported an upcoming retirement and said he will seek temporary summer help; Public Health presented its FY23/24 annual report and noted a Board of Health vacancy effective June 30; Conservation staff reported a Naturalist resignation effective July 3 and proposed creating a 'Naturalist Technician' position. The Board examined and approved the claims list, recorded in the minutes as totaling $644,608.23.
The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. and adjourned at 9:17 a.m.
