Commissioners pause residential component of Wheatland’s mixed‑use proposal

Commissioners on Oct. 17 discussed a conceptual mixed‑use plan for the Wheatland property that Mr. Waterman had brought to their attention. Commissioner Alton Hardee Jr. said Mr. Waterman had asked whether a planned community could largely be self‑sustaining with the town only providing water and sewer.
Town Attorney Brynja Booth told the commissioners that, conceptually, such a development could be possible but noted the town might still need to provide trash and recycling services and that an impact study could clarify community effects.
All three commissioners present agreed there should be no residential development on the site at this time and directed that the matter be continued at the next meeting for further consideration. No formal approvals or ordinances were adopted Oct. 17.
