Queenstown to Hold Nov. 28 Hearing on Proposed Repeal and Re-enactment of Zoning Code

Town Attorney Brynja Booth recommended that the town repeal and re-enact the current zoning ordinance, citing several changes in the 2018 draft and a need to restructure the section on signage following a recent Supreme Court ruling. President Thomas B. Willis Jr. moved to introduce Ordinance 18-04 and schedule a public hearing on Nov. 28, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.; Commissioner Jolger Schuster seconded the motion and it passed 2–0.

Booth said the last zoning ordinance had been adopted in 2016 and that the draft 2018 version incorporates multiple edits; she recommended repealing the 2016 ordinance in its entirety and re-enacting the updated draft. "Section on signage has been restructured due to the Supreme Court ruling on certain sign regulations," Booth said, recommending that the commissioners introduce Ordinance 18-04 and set the hearing date.

Booth also confirmed that a homeowners association (HOA) has been established for Steamboat Village and explained which infrastructure the town will and will not accept. Under the public works agreement, the HOA will own and be responsible for stormwater management facilities and the tot lot; the town will own only Thompson Avenue extended and public and emergency access easements and will not assume ownership until those areas are complete, inspected to the town's satisfaction, and a deed and easement are prepared.

The hearing on Ordinance 18-04 is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018; residents and interested parties can attend that meeting to comment on the proposed repeal and re-enactment.
