Queenstown weighs partial sewer repairs, seeks funding and contractor estimates

The Queenstown Commissioners on Oct. 17 reviewed a recommendation from Bob Rauch concerning inflow and infiltration (I&I) issues and sewerline repairs.
Commissioner discussion focused on whether to repair a few sections now and delay remaining repairs until funding could be secured. Commissioners asked that Mr. Rauch submit applications to both the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Maryland Department of the Environment for project funding.
Clerk Amy Moore was directed to obtain contractor cost estimates comparing the price to make limited repairs now versus replacing or repairing the entire project. Town Attorney Brynja Booth said interim financing could be obtained via a bank line of credit but cautioned that any borrowing would require an ordinance to be introduced and passed.
The clerk was asked to coordinate with Pat Bowell on funding options. The commission did not approve a financing plan at the meeting and indicated further discussion will take place in a future session.
