Queenstown approves USDA funding package and schedules work session on new water tower

The Queenstown Commissioners on Oct. 17 confirmed the town has secured $3,186,000 in total funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for a new water tower, property acquisition and related infrastructure. The financing was described as including roughly $1.8 million in loan funds and $1.3 million in grant funds.
President Thomas B. Willis Jr. and the two other commissioners agreed that further review with consultant Bob Rauch would be beneficial before moving forward. Town staff scheduled a work session for Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. with Mr. Rauch to discuss the tower and related inflow and infiltration (I&I) sewer projects.
Town Manager Clerk Amy Moore and staff will use that session to develop cost estimates and next steps; no construction contract or final borrowing was approved at the meeting. The commissioners did not vote on borrowing terms at the Oct. 17 meeting and noted federal loan and grant terms will inform any future decisions.
Next steps: the board will review the consultant’s recommendations and financing options at the Nov. 6 work session before taking formal action.
