UW Extension updates 4‑H outreach; committee approves refilling regional livestock educator

Carlene Kravock, Richland County 4‑H educator with UW Extension, briefed the Natural Resources committee July 6 about summer youth programming, volunteer coordination and outreach efforts. Kravock said most programs rely heavily on volunteers and highlighted library partnerships in Viola, Lone Rock and Muscoda, collaboration with parks-and-rec and plans for a free Applefest outreach event on Saturday the 22nd at the Richland County Smart Farm.
Krackow (Kravock) introduced Isaiah Courier, an AmeriCorps-supported educator placed this summer through grant funding; Courier described organizing stations at last year’s Applefest, plans to collaborate with the Richland County Campus Foundation Smart Farm and partnerships with the county dairy promotion committee and local fruit farms.
Separately, Extension staff asked the committee to reaffirm Richland County’s share of a regional livestock educator position (shared across Richland, Crawford, Vernon and La Crosse counties), noting the county’s budget commitment is about $12,000–$13,000 annually. Committee members requested a position summary/job description before hiring; extension staff said they would provide a position summary and follow the shared hiring process. The committee voted by voice to approve refilling the regional livestock educator position.
