Michiana advances water projects; planning commission sets Master Plan target for mid‑fall

Council member Mike Mumper said the village is "moving forward with the water project," that the Village is urging contractor Merritt to begin work, and that the council plans to issue one combined bid for the two water projects. Mumper said a new, stronger pump has been installed. Public Works Superintendent Rick Reitz told the council that proposals on file include two additional drywells and associated paving; he said the paving would be done in the fall.
On intergovernmental water service, Tim McCarthy noted that Grand Beach will hold a council meeting on the following Wednesday to review a proposed 50‑year water contract, an item the Village is monitoring.
On planning, Planning Commission representative Julie Bonello said the goal is to have the Master Plan completed by mid‑fall, with beaches and infrastructure flagged as the task force’s top priorities. Bonello thanked residents who completed the survey and announced an open workshop for the Master Planning Task Force on Saturday, July 26.
Next steps include tracking Merritt’s start date and the Grand Beach council review of the 50‑year contract, plus the Planning Task Force open workshop in July.
