Waynetown council adopts ordinance allowing registered 4‑wheelers and snowmobiles with restrictions

The Waynetown Town Council unanimously adopted Ordinance 2026‑002 on June 10, 2026, revising Chapter 70.01 (Unlawful Operation) and 70.99 (Penalties) to permit certain off‑highway vehicles, including registered 4‑wheelers and snowmobiles, subject to restrictions and higher fines.

Council member Barry Lewis moved to pass the ordinance and the council voted 5‑0 at first reading. The council then voted 5‑0 to suspend the rules and proceeded to approve the measure on second and third readings that same night; Clerk‑Treasurer Sandy Proctor will publish the ordinance in the local newspaper.

The change allows operation of DNR‑registered 4‑wheelers and snowmobiles in the town where the ordinance’s restrictions apply, and it raises penalties for violations. Town Marshal Kyle Proctor reviewed the amendment language with the council and noted the proposed fines had been increased; the council debated whether to make the fines effective immediately or 30 days after publication and proceeded with the higher fines, which triggers the later effective date in the ordinance text.

The ordinance passage was procedural and unanimous; no amendments to the measure were recorded during the June 10 session. The council did not record any roll‑call dissent and the clerk confirmed the 5‑0 tallies for each reading.
